1. An example profile
A short profile at the top of your CV says who you are and what work you want. Change it to fit your own experience:
2. Duties to list
Under each job like this in your work experience, list three to five of the duties you really did:
- Help patients with bathing, dressing and eating
- Take and record temperature, pulse and blood pressure
- Give medication as prescribed and record it
- Keep patients comfortable, clean and safe
- Report changes in a patient's condition
- Support patients and their families
3. Skills and certificates
Skills employers look for in this job:
- Basic first aid
- Patient care
- Compassion
- Record keeping
Also list, if you have them:
- Caregiving or ancillary health care qualification
- First aid level (1, 2 or 3)
- SANC registration, if you are an enrolled nursing auxiliary
- Home-based care or old age home experience
4. Tips for Caregiver or Nursing Assistant jobs
- List your training clearly: caregiving or ancillary health care courses, first aid level, and SANC registration if you have one.
- Describe the patients you cared for (elderly people, people with disabilities, home-based care) and what you did.
- Kindness and patience matter as much as skills: let your profile and references show them.
5. An example cover letter
Send a short cover letter with your CV, naming the post and the reference number from the advert:
Dear Hiring Manager
Re: Application for the post of Caregiver or Nursing Assistant
I would like to apply for the post of Caregiver or Nursing Assistant, as advertised. Please find my CV attached.
For four years I cared for elderly residents at an old age home and later for patients in home-based care, helping with bathing, feeding, medication reminders and moving patients safely. I have first aid Level 2 and I treat every patient with patience and respect.
I am available for an interview at any time and can be reached on 072 123 4567. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully
