1. An example profile
A short profile at the top of your CV says who you are and what work you want. Change it to fit your own experience:
2. Duties to list
Under each job like this in your work experience, list three to five of the duties you really did:
- Pack and face shelves according to planograms
- Check stock levels and place orders with suppliers
- Set up promotional displays and price tickets
- Rotate stock and remove expired or damaged products
- Build good relationships with store managers
- Report on competitor activity and stock problems
- Take photos of displays for head office reports
3. Skills and certificates
Skills employers look for in this job:
- Stock control
- Planogram compliance
- Time management
- Driving
Also list, if you have them:
- Driver's licence and own transport, if you have them (many merchandising jobs need them)
- The stores or chains you serviced
- Brands or product types you worked with
4. Tips for Merchandiser jobs
- Name the stores you serviced and how many per day or week: it shows the size of your route.
- A driver's licence and own transport are often required for merchandising; put them near the top of your CV.
- Mention results, such as less out-of-stock on your shelves or a promotion display that sold well.
5. An example cover letter
Send a short cover letter with your CV, naming the post and the reference number from the advert:
Dear Hiring Manager
Re: Application for the post of Merchandiser
I would like to apply for the post of Merchandiser, as advertised. Please find my CV attached.
For two years I serviced eight supermarkets a week for a food supplier, packing shelves to planogram, rotating stock and building promotional displays. I have a Code B driver's licence and my own car, and I build good relationships with store managers.
I am available for an interview at any time and can be reached on 072 123 4567. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully
Thabo Mokoena
