1. An example profile
A short profile at the top of your CV says who you are and what work you want. Change it to fit your own experience:
2. Duties to list
Under each job like this in your work experience, list three to five of the duties you really did:
- Deliver goods to customers safely and on time
- Check the vehicle before every trip (tyres, oil, lights)
- Load and offload goods and check them against invoices
- Plan routes and keep a trip logbook
- Collect proof of delivery and payments
- Report vehicle faults and accidents immediately
3. Skills and certificates
Skills employers look for in this job:
- Valid driver's licence and PrDP
- Route planning
- Vehicle checks
- Time management
Also list, if you have them:
- Driver's licence code (B, EB, C1, C, EC1, EC) and expiry date
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) and its category
- Clean driving record
- Vehicles you have driven
4. Tips for Driver jobs
- Put your licence code and PrDP right at the top. Many transport jobs need a PrDP for goods or passengers, and employers check it first.
- List the vehicles and routes you know, and whether you did local deliveries or long distance.
- A clean driving record and taking care of vehicles (daily checks, logbooks) are big selling points.
5. An example cover letter
Send a short cover letter with your CV, naming the post and the reference number from the advert:
Dear Hiring Manager
Re: Application for the post of Driver
I would like to apply for the post of Driver, as advertised. Please find my CV attached.
I hold a Code EC (Code 14) licence and a PrDP, and for five years I drove trucks for a logistics company, delivering locally and to Gauteng and the Free State. I do my daily vehicle checks, keep accurate trip logs and have a clean driving record.
I am available for an interview at any time and can be reached on 072 123 4567. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully
Thabo Mokoena
