1. An example profile
A short profile at the top of your CV says who you are and what work you want. Change it to fit your own experience:
2. Duties to list
Under each job like this in your work experience, list three to five of the duties you really did:
- Keep accurate stock records on the system
- Do monthly stock takes and investigate variances
- Place orders with suppliers and follow up deliveries
- Check deliveries against orders and invoices
- Report on slow-moving and damaged stock
- Help prevent losses and theft
3. Skills and certificates
Skills employers look for in this job:
- Stock control
- Microsoft Excel
- Attention to detail
- Problem solving
Also list, if you have them:
- Stock systems you used (SAP, Pastel, Excel or the store's own)
- Results such as lower shrinkage
- Computer and Excel skills
4. Tips for Stock Controller jobs
- Numbers help here: mention shrinkage you reduced or counts you ran.
- Name the systems you used for stock, orders and receiving.
- Show that you are honest and careful: stock control is a position of trust.
5. An example cover letter
Send a short cover letter with your CV, naming the post and the reference number from the advert:
Dear Hiring Manager
Re: Application for the post of Stock Controller
I would like to apply for the post of Stock Controller, as advertised. Please find my CV attached.
As stock controller at a hardware store I ran the monthly stock counts, received deliveries against orders and investigated every variance. Within a year we brought shrinkage down noticeably, and I keep the system and the shelves in agreement.
I am available for an interview at any time and can be reached on 072 123 4567. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully
Thabo Mokoena
