4. Tips for Teacher or Teacher Assistant jobs
- Teachers must be registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE). Put your SACE number on your CV.
- Say which phase and subjects you are qualified for, and your teaching experience, including practice teaching.
- If you were a school assistant in the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative, list it as work experience. Government teaching posts also need a Z83 form.
5. An example cover letter
Send a short cover letter with your CV, naming the post and the reference number from the advert:
Dear Hiring Manager
Re: Application for the post of Teacher or Teacher Assistant
I would like to apply for the post of Teacher or Teacher Assistant, as advertised. Please find my CV attached.
I hold a B.Ed in Foundation Phase teaching and I am registered with SACE. During three years at a primary school I taught Grade 2, ran a reading club and kept parents involved, and my learners' reading results improved every term.
I am available for an interview at any time and can be reached on 072 123 4567. Thank you for considering my application.
Yours faithfully
